CDM Safety Facilitator

Randstad Engineering are currently recruiting for a CDM Safety Facilitator to come and work for TATA Steel in Port Talbot.

This is a contract position paying £18.93 per hour, working 40 hours per week working within the Projects & Design department.

Purpose Of Job

As a Service Department our customers are at the heart of everything we do. This role is key to ensuring that the service we provide is done so in a safe and professional way.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager/independent Client representative of your assigned project, the purpose of the role is to advise on safe working practices and procedures via the principles of the Construction Design Management (CDM 2015) and Company Health & Safety Management Systems (CHSMS).

You will be the first point of contact for matters regarding occupational safety standards and will be expected to work closely with Project Teams (CDM duty holders), Works area representatives, Operational Support Teams, Safety Professionals and Contractor Organisations.

Accountabilies

– Support and advise the project teams/duty holders in the co-ordination, implementation and development of safety systems and procedures (plan, manage, monitor).
– To help ensure that adequate control measures are in place for the control of Contractors working
for the Project & Design department and ensure compliance with appropriate CDM and H&S
legislation is maintained.
– To actively promote TSSP UK values, standards and behaviours along with the Company Health
and Safety policy.
– Support the deployment of the Tata Health and Safety Management System and department goals
with respect to the Safety Annual Plan.
– Identify improvements in health, safety and environmental standards in the assigned area/Project
construction site.
– Monitor pre-construction, construction phase and commissioning phase worksites, challenging
appropriately to help ensure compliance with phase plans, local rules and best practice.
– Take a role in departmental safety days, pauses, interventions and initiatives.
– Monitor and update area tracking systems including Learning from Events and Near Miss Reports.
– Update designated Safety Systems including Compliance Register and Audit Index.

– To arrange or conduct as required site inspections, planned visits and safety tours.
– To audit safety compliance with regards to behaviour and inspections.
– Liaise with the Central Safety/Specialist Safety Advisor to provide information and where
appropriate specialist Health & Safety knowledge.
– Develop, issue and record safety bulletins, accident alerts, amber alerts, toolbox talks etc.
– Provide information for internal and external stakeholders such as auditors, JWHSAC, steering
meetings etc.
– Deliver local area safety inductions and training packages as required by the local
department/Project to ensure clear understanding of local safety rules to all persons (employees,
contractors and visitors).
– Track and drive safety compliance training within the local area, e.g. HAVS, Fire, Asbestos, Gas
Awareness.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Knowledge

– IOSH Managing Safety qualification will be held with a view to working towards a
NEBOSH General Certificate.
– Construction Skills CITB & Site Management Safety Training Scheme & certificate or
equivalent.
– Good knowledge of Construction techniques and processes.
– Good knowledge of Windows Office, SAP & Lotus notes database.
– Experience in heavy industries such as steelmaking, major construction or oil and gas

– Able to work effectively at all levels in an organisation.
– Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
– Flexibility in approach to roles and responsibilities.
